Tekstvak: There are several things to see and do close to our house. We selected some tips for you on the “links” page. You will also find a folder in the Gîtes. Hiking over walking trails or through the trees in the forest; everything is possible. Afterwards you can relax in the picnic garden. Cycling, over country roads in the area, or cycling through the Pyrenees. For those who love horseback riding there are several possibilities for tours in the direct area. Golfers will happy to find several golf clubs in the area. For water lovers there are several lakes in which you can swim or fish. Canoeing and Kayaking is possible on the Baïse river. If you prefer a relaxed boat trip you can book an organized boat trip. There is a lake close by where you can spot birds, more than 200 species have been recorded so far. On and around the lake of St. Blancard several activities are being organized like: parasailing, quad and buggy driving and paintball. For the history lovers among you there are museums in several cities. Cities like Auch and Toulouse are must sees on their own and worth a visit. Like several other departments, Gers has been named after a river running through it. It’s mostly a farming area. The farming markets of the area sell local products. You can of course go to one of the surrounding villages for your daily grocery needs. The landscape is sloping and the highest tops are about 320 meters high. In the old province of Armagnac, also called Gascogne, you will see amazing architecture. When it comes to architecture Auch is an absolute highpoint. The old capitol of Gers is famous for it’s St. Maria chapel from the 19th century and the palace of the bishop. In Auch Hautte you will find numerous small shops and small diners in which can enjoy the local food. Other must-sees in the area are: Mariac, where the annual Jazz festival is held. Toulouse, the “pink city” by the Garonne river. And of course Lourdes, the catholic pilgrimage in the Pyrenees. Talking about the Pyrenees: they are only 60 km away. The mountain range on the French Spanish border offers everything mountains should: beautiful nature, small mountain cleaves, spectacular views, snowy mountain tops, lakes and so on.
